Blackburn's Craig Short has agreed a one-year extension to his contract.
The 36-year-old defender's current deal was due to expire at the end of this season but manager Graeme Souness was keen for Short to stay.
"We had to get the season sorted out first and I was not going to talk to anyone else until I knew what the situation at Rovers was," said Short.
Souness added: "I am delighted Craig will be with us next season, he is a proper player and a true professional."
Short revealed that he turned down an approach from his ex-Bury boss Neil Warnock, who wanted to take him to Sheffield United.
"I've kept in touch with Neil ever since I played for him," the centre-back told BBC Lancashire.
"He rang me couple of times about two weeks ago and offered me a contract.
"He knew that Blackburn were going to talk to me, and he said that if they (Rovers) offered me a deal that I had to sign it!
"I rang him this week and said that I'd signed and to be fair he wasn't surprised, because he knows it's the place to play in the Premier League."
