Miller forced to retire

Blackburn goalkeeper Alan Miller has been forced to retire on medical advice at the age of 33.

Miller has fought an unsuccessful battle against a back injury and gave up the fight to avoid the necessity for surgery.

Former Middlesbrough and West Brom keeper Miller said: "When I got the injury I knew it was quite serious.

"I went for a scan and it showed up quite a few problems.

"I had an operation on my back about 10 or 11 years ago and that went well, bt this was in the same area and when I knew that, I didn't want it operating on again.

"I've no real choice but to call it a day, which is very sad.

"But it happens to a lot of players and you've just got to try and stay positive about it," Miller told Blackburn's official website.

Miller made just two first-team appearances since signing from West Brom three years ago.

He is the second Blackburn player to retire within a month following Stig Inge Bjornebye's decision to hang up his boots.
