Blackburn's Gudjohnsen link
Gudjohnsen would cost Rovers a record fee
Gudjohnsen has been a success at Chelsea
Blackburn Rovers could try to sign Icelandic striker Eidur Gudjohnsen from Chelsea after failing to agree a fee with Manchester United for Dwight Yorke.

Trinidad and Tobago striker Yorke is leaving Old Trafford and has not been given a squad number for the forthcoming season.

But his widely touted move to Ewood Park has failed to materialise, with Rovers boss Graeme Souness increasingly frustrated at United's 6m asking price.

Souness has made it clear that he wants to reunite Yorke with Andy Cole, who joined Rovers last season, but is unhappy with United's demands for a 30-year-old player.

Souness' failure to sign Yorke could persuade him to move for Gudjohnsen, according to the Independent newspaper.

Gudjohnsen has been a revelation at Stamford Bridge since joining from Bolton two seasons ago.

The 23-year-old would cost Rovers a club-record fee but - with age on his side - his value is likely to increase.

He has formed a formidable partnership with Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink at Stamford Bridge but Chelsea have financial worries and may be persuaded to sell.

Yorke was linked with a switch to Steve McClaren's Middlesbrough last season but he turned the move down.

He has been told by United manager Sir Alex Ferguson that he has no future at Old Trafford.

And with pre-season training now under way, Yorke has still to sort out who he will be joining.
