Berg returns to Ewood Park
John Hartson holds off Henning Berg
Henning Berg (r) has 73 international caps
Blackburn Rovers have secured the services of Henning Berg in a 1.75m deal.

The Norwegian completed an initial three-month spell with Rovers on loan from Manchester United which culminated last week.

The two clubs have now agreed on a permanent deal which will see the international defender return to the club where he won the Premiership title in 1995.

The 32-year-old's new contract at Ewood Park will last until summer 2001 with a further one-year option.

Blackburn chief executive John Williams said: "We are delighted to have agreed a deal.

"We contacted Manchester United and were able to renegotiate the payment terms, while Henning played his part in proceedings by shortening his contract length.

"All things came together to finally make it possible for our manager Graeme Souness to recommend that we should proceed with the move. To get Henning to sign is a great boost for us."

Berg made over 150 appearances for Blackburn before moving to Old Trafford in a 5m deal in August 1997.
