New deal for keeper Colin Doyle as six leave Blues

Birmingham City keeper Colin Doyle has signed a one-year contract extension tieing him to St Andrew's until 2012.

But veteran striker Marcus Bent is one of six released by Blues, along with Robin Shroot, James O'Shea, Luke Rowe, Mitch McPike and Dan Preston.

Loan signings David Bentley, Alexander Hleb, Matt Derbyshire and Obafemi Martins return to their parent clubs.

Martins will be remembered for coming off the bench to score the winner in the Carling Cup final against Arsenal.

It was one of two goals scored by the Nigeria international in his six appearances for the club.

Sweden international wide man Sebastian Larsson is another who looks likely to be heading for the St Andrew's exit.

The 25-year-old came close to joining Newcastle United in January and submitted a transfer request at the turn of the year.

But, although Blues did a U-turn and opted to retain his services, he is out of contract this summer after five years' service and now looks ready to leave on a Bosman.

Larsson joined Blues from Arsenal in July 2006, initially on loan, alongside Fabrice Muamba and Nicklas Bendtner, before making a permanent £1m move.

He scored 19 goals in 204 appearances and became the club's dead-ball specialist.

Sunderland, Stoke City and Blackburn Rovers, as well as his winter suitors Newcastle, are among those to have been linked with the Swede.

As for Irishman Doyle, who originally joined Blues as an Academy scholar in 2001, the club are exercising their option to retain the services of the 25-year old for a further season.

Cork-born Doyle, who played the second half of Blues' promotion-winning campaign in 2006/07, made just three appearances last season.

Two of them were in the FA Cup and he also came off the bench to replace the injured Ben Foster in Blues' 5-0 defeat by Liverpool at Anfield on Easter Saturday.

Doyle also spent a week on loan at neighbours Coventry City in August, making one Carling Cup apearance.
