Lee Carsley will leave Birmingham City at the end of the season.

The veteran midfielder has decided to leave St Andrew's after two years with his home-town club.

The 36-year-old has struggled with injuries this season and only started three Premier League games, most recently against Arsenal in October.

"I have had two fantastic years at the Blues and I would like to thank the management and the fans for all their support", Carsley said.

"I came to the club to help them back into the Premier League and then to stay there", he added. "I will now look to help another club achieve success and I relish another challenge."

The former Republic of Ireland international moved to Birmingham from Everton in 2008 and played a key role in the club's promotion last season.

He helped them to runners-up spot in the Championship, was voted the players' player of the year and enjoyed a spell as team captain.

Carsley started his career at Derby County and has also played for Blackburn Rovers and Coventry during an 18-year professional career.
