Birmingham have received international clearance for new Honduran signing Carlos Costly to make his debut.

Blues signed the international striker, 26, until the end of the season from Polish outfit GKS Belchatow for a loan fee of 500,000 last Thursday.

He is now free to make his Blues debut at home to Burnley on Saturday.

"I'm pleased we've got through the red tape. The aim is to have him available for selection as soon as possible," said Blues boss Alex McLeish.

"I'm now looking forward to putting him on a crash course with our sports science team to build up his match fitness."

Costly began his career in Mexico, playing for several clubs before leaving in the summer of 2006 to sign for Honduran side Deportivo Platense.

He finished as the 10-goal top-scorer in the Honduras Apertura, earning him a move to Poland.

And, since joining Belchatow, Costly has netted 11 goals in 37 appearances, as well as adding to his international haul of six goals in 22 appearances.

"Carlos has a smashing pedigree, especially with the Honduran team," said McLeish.

"In recent times they have taken some fantastic scalps, including a result against Mexico, and Carlos is a key figure.

"He is a target man-type striker who is hungry and has loads of bottle. He has channelled aggression and wants to get in where it hurts."
