Birmingham midfielder Borja Oubina will be sidelined for at least six months with a knee injury.
Oubina faces a lengthy spell out
Oubina, who is on loan from Celta Vigo, ruptured his left anterior cruciate ligament just 13 minutes into his Blues debut against Liverpool on Saturday.
"This is terrible because I arrived in the Premier League with much anticipation," said the 25-year-old.
Blues boss Steve Bruce admitted: "It is a bitter blow for us but more importantly, for the lad himself."
Oubina suffered a similar injury to his right knee in 1997.
"From what I've seen of him in training, it was obvious he is a very good player," Bruce added.
"To have his season cut short just minutes into his debut is tragic."
