Birmingham striker Emile Heskey will undergo an X-ray on the knee injury sustained in the 2-0 defeat at Charlton on Saturday.
Heskey's injury may prompt boss Steve Bruce to delve into the transfer market and he has admitted that Charlton's Jason Euell is a possible solution.
Bruce said: "Emile took a knock to the knee during the Charlton game and will undergo an X-ray later on Tuesday.
"We will have to keep our fingers crossed it is nothing serious."
Should Heskey's problem prove to be serious, efforts are likely to be stepped up to sign utility player Euell.
Blues have agreed a £1.5m fee for Euell, although personal terms have still to be discussed and Bruce is also concerned by how quickly he will be able to achieve match fitness after a shoulder problem.
He told the Birmingham Mail: "With the money I have available, I have to consider things very carefully.
"We have tracked Jason for some time but my fear is that he has not played all season because of a shoulder injury.
"I believe it's not a problem to him anymore, but you just don't know how long it might take before he's really up and running."
