Clemence set for Blues
Stephen Clemence
Clemence recently returned after 12 months out
Birmingham have agreed a fee believed to be in the region of 1.3m for Spurs midfielder Stephen Clemence.

The news comes on the same day that the Blues agreed to pay 1.5m fee for Ipswich defender Jamie Clapham.

Clemence, the son on former England goalkeeper Ray, will join the the West Midlands club subject to passing a medical and agreeing personal terms.

"We've agreed a fee for him and we meet Stephen on Wednesday when we hope we can agree terms with him," said Blues co-owner David Sullivan.

The 24-year-old has just returned to full fitness after successfully recovering from a long-term injury and has made just one appearance for Spurs this season.

Sullivan also admitted he and chairman David Gold will dip into their own pockets to finance any further signings Birmingham manager Steve Bruce wants to make.

"The bank won't let us have any more money so I'll put half in and David Gold will have to put the other half in," said Sullivan.

"The club cannot afford it but we'll find the money.

"We've already found 1.5m for Christophe Dugarry and Ferdinand Coly and we'll find quite a bit more to give the team a chance of survival."
