Purse stalls on new deal
Darren Purse in action for Birmingham
Purse has twice rejected new offers from Birmingham
Darren Purse will not discuss extending his contract at Birmingham City until July.

The central defender has expressed a desire to stay with the Premiership newcomers but has twice turned down offers of a new deal.

With 12 months of his present contract remaining, Purse wants to talk over his future with manager Steve Bruce, who is not expected to allow talks to drag on.

It's down to Darren - his plans may be different to what they were six months ago

"I'm still desperate to stay here - that has not changed," Purse told the Birmingham Evening Mail.

"But everything has to be right for me and my family and I wasn't over happy with what was offered last time.

"What happens now, we'll have to wait and see. I've spoken with my agent and Karren Brady and we are going to leave it until everyone is back from holidays.

"I've only just been away and the gaffer isn't around and he has said he wants to be there when negotiations begin again."

Premiership ambition

Purse had the captaincy taken off him by Bruce when he turned down a second pay offer, worth around £10,000 per week.

Blues general manager John Benson said: "Darren told us he wanted to play in the Premiership.

"He could get that opportunity with Birmingham now. It's down to Darren. His plans may be different to what they were six months ago."
