Supporters head Berwick takeover

Berwick Rangers

A consortium led by Berwick Rangers Supporters Club has agreed a deal to takeover the border outfit.

Meanwhile, manager Allan McGonigal has decided to resign from his position six months after taking over at Shielfield.

"I made up my mind that when the current directors left I would move on," McGonigal, 44, explained to The Berwick Advertiser.

The former Camelon boss added: "I have tried my best but I have not had the cash to bring in the players I needed."

During his tenure McGonigal spent just 4,000, which he used to bring Jim Lister to the club.

And he said he has had to bare the brunt of the criticism for the club's poor start to the season.

"I feel I have been made a bit of a scapegoat," he said.

The border club have lost five games in a row since beating Annan Athletic in late September.

The most recent defeat came on Saturday, as they went down 3-0 to Albion Rovers in what was to be McGonigal's last game in charge.

Jimmy Crease will take charge of the team temporarily for Saturday's visit to Forfar Athletic.
