Bath City sign ex-Bristol City midfielder Alex Russell

Bath City have signed former Bristol City midfielder Alex Russell on a short-term deal until January.

The 37-year-old was released by Exeter City in the summer after making 29 appearances during the 2009/10 season.

Russell played at Ashton Gate from 2005 to 2008 and will line up with former Bristol City team-mate Scott Murray at Twerton Park.

"He just seems to make good runs in good areas and he definitely knows how to finish," Russell told BBC Bristol.

He continued: "Alex is the type of player I'd like to play with, and obviously did at [Bristol] City - he scores goals which any club wants at any level."

The former Torquay United and Cheltenham midfielder has spent pre-season at a number of clubs but said he was glad to finally get the chance to play competitively again.

"I'd been to America for a few weeks and came back and spoke to Adie [Britton, Bath City boss], " he said.

"He got me in training and was then able to offer me a short-term deal until January which is perfect for both of us and we can see what happens then.

"It's good for me to get games again rather than just training."

Bath City are currently in the relegation zone in the Blue Square Bet Premier, with just one win in 11 games.
