Bayliss torn over Barrow cup form

Barrow co-manager Dave Bayliss has admitted their progress in cup competitions this season has been both a help and a hindrance to his side.

The Bluebirds face League Two side Brentford in Friday's FA Cup round two tie and were paired in Monday's FA Trophy draw with Skelmersdale United.

"Cup games are a bit of a pain in that they're a distraction, but it's a good one," he told BBC Radio Cumbria.

"But if you get knocked out in the first round the fans would complain."

With Barrow operating as a part-time outfit in their first season back in Blue Square Premier since 1999, extra games take their toll on the players.

On the flip-side, Bayliss is also fully aware of the financial benefits that cup football will provide to the club and understands the need to maintain that form.

"It's another chance to get more money into the club," he said.

"The cup competitions give us more money because we're on television on Friday and hopefully we can progress but it's a distraction because we're playing catch-up in the league games.

"The job is hard enough for the players. They all work as well so they've got two jobs to juggle."

Barrow welcome Brentford to Holker Street on Friday and you can hear build-up and full match commentary on BBC Radio Cumbria from 1900 GMT.
