Barnsley's Daniel Bogdanovic turns down contract offer

Barnsley

Barnsley striker Daniel Bogdanovic has turned down an improved contract offer for next season.

The 30-year-old Malta international is currently the Reds' leading scorer with 14 goals this season.

Reds director Don Rowing told BBC Radio Sheffield: "We made an offer to extend to his contract but, after consultation, he has refused it."

Rowing said that talks will continue take place but only once the Championship season has ended.

He added: "The regulations are such that we have until the third Saturday in May to make our decision.

"Players are contracted until 30 June and, obviously, they still have two games to play."

Rowing added: "There is a big difference between the player and club at the moment but we can't compromise the future of the football club by paying money we can't afford.

"We think it's a very generous offer but Daniel obviously thinks differently and we'll have to see what happens at the end of the season."
