Davey must 'justify Barnsley job'

Simon Davey
Davey said last month that he still had the total support of Cryne

Barnsley chairman Patrick Cryne has told manager Simon Davey that he will have to justify his role at the club if he wants to keep his job.

Davey, 38, led the Reds to Championship survival for the third season in a row by beating Plymouth and his future will be decided in the coming weeks.

Cryne told BBC Radio Sheffield: "He has to make a persuasive case to me why he should stay in charge.

"He then needs to take that case out and explain it to the wider fan-base."

Cryne added: "I want to hear more about what his plans are for Barnsley Football Club.

"That will be a key issue in our discussions, and whether he's got that ability to build a rapport with our fans."

The Tykes finished 20th, six points clear of relegated Norwich, after their victory on the final day over Argyle.
