Barnsley snap up Mifsud on loan

Mifsud has won 60 caps for Malta

Coventry City forward Michael Mifsud has joined Barnsley on loan until the end of the season.

The 27-year-old has made 29 appearances for the Sky Blues this season, scoring two goals.

He told the Barnsley club website: "Barnsley showed non-stop commitment to getting me to join them.

"I had the chance to join other Championship clubs but the important thing is to get the chance to play in a direct attacking role."

Mifsud joined Coventry from Norwegian side Lillestrom in January 2007.

It is understood that the Reds has hoped to capture the Malta international on a three-year deal but opted for a loan move in order to complete the signing before the close of the transfer window.

"I was close to signing a permanent deal, but I needed more time to think it through and time was in short supply," said Mifsud.

"Now I can't wait to get playing and help the team move forward."

Mifsud is set to make his debut for Barnsley in Tuesday's Championship clash with Sheffield Wednesday.
