Barnsley have terminated the contract of former Brentford full-back Paul Gibbs by mutual consent.
Gibbs was brought in by former boss Steve Parkin in March 2002 in an attempt to preserve Barnsley's Division One status.
Although the side were eventually relegated, he held down a regular first-team place during the campaign.
But, with the arrival of Gudjon Thordarson, his chances at the club have become more limited.
Gibbs, who has made 36 appearances for the Reds, turned out just four times for the team this season.
