Barnsley fans form rival club

Barnsley supporters have followed AFC Wimbledon's lead and formed a breakaway club after becoming disillusioned with the regime at Oakwell.

A group of fans are unhappy with Peter Doyle's handling of the Second Division club and have created a new team.

AFC Barnsley have been registered with the Sheffield & Hallamshire FA and will play in the KitClub Central Midlands League next season.

Group leader Paul Bestall told the Yorkshire Post: "We will always love Barnsley but we are not happy at the way the club has been run under Doyle.

"I'm fed up of hearing false statements which can't be delivered upon and I'm sick of the contempt we are shown. We've set up this club as an insurance policy for fans who feel the same way.

"This will be a club that they can be proud of and be involved with fully. There was a lack of community spirit at Barnsley but here everybody wants the same thing."
