Barnsley duo forced to retire
![]() Watson's hopes of a return have been dashed
Barnsley duo David Watson and Robbie
Van Der Laan have both been forced to
retire from football.
Keeper Watson has never recovered from a knee injury sustained against Norwich in September 1998. Physiotherapist Jim Webb told the club's website: "David saw his consultant last week and the decision was made. It is a huge shame for him." Van Der Laan suffered cruciate ligament damage in December 2000. The midfielder made 80 appearances for the club.
