Barnet have signed former Charlton and MK Dons striker Izale McLeod.

The 25-year-old, who was released by the Addicks in the summer, has signed a one-year deal with the Bees.

Charlton agreed a £1.5m deal in August 2007 to sign the forward from MK Dons - where he had impressed, scoring 54 league goals in 116 matches.

He struggled with injury at Charlton, but Bees chairman Tony Kleanthous said: "This is a real coup and potentially one of our biggest ever signings."

McLeod was out of action for seven months after suffering a knee injury while on loan with Colchester playing against Plymouth in March 2008.

After returning to action, he had further loan spells at Millwall and Peterborough, but failed to establish himself as a first-team regular at the Valley and was released in the summer.

A medical with Barnet revealed that McLeod was still suffering with a knee problem, but the player told the club's website he was recovering well from recent surgery.

McLeod said: "I am really looking forward to putting on a Barnet shirt, getting back to my best, playing football and scoring goals.

"I'll be kick-starting my career as soon as possible and I am enjoying it at Barnet but, at the moment, it is one step at a time."

Manager Mark Stimson added: "At this level he will be a force. He will add pace and power to the group."
