Breen made more than 100 appearances for Sunderland
Veteran centre-back Gary Breen is set to join League Two strugglers Barnet as player-coach, subject to a medical, after training with the Bees on Monday.
The 34-year-old has played for eight League clubs including Gillingham, Peterborough, Birmingham, Coventry, West Ham Sunderland and Wolves.
However, he has been a free agent since leaving Wolves during the summer.
He also made 63 appearances for the Republic of Ireland and played in every minute of the 2002 World Cup campaign.
Breen, whose parents live in Barnet, began his career as a trainee at Charlton before joining Maidstone.
