Aston Villa have signed Thomas Hitzlsperger, a German youth international, on a free transfer from Bayern Munich.

Hitzlsperger is just 18 and can play in defence or midfield.

He has signed a two-year contract at Villa Park after originally training with the club back in February.

The youngster turned down an offer from Bayern who he has been associated with since the age of 11.

"My ambition is to play in the Premiership and I intend to reach it," said Hitzlsperger.

"I have come here to develop as a player and play as a professional."
