Bouma resumes training for Villa

Aston Villa defender Wilfred Bouma says he will not rush his comeback from a dislocated ankle after resuming training following 14 months out.

Bouma was prevented from returning at the end of last season when bone fragments broke off his ankle.

The 31-year-old told Villa's website: "There are no timeframes. Getting match fit is my aim and hopefully I'll be taking part in reserve games soon.

"It feels much better than the first time I returned to training."

The Dutchman, who picked up the injury in July 2008 during Villa's Intertoto Cup win over Odense, underwent an operation to reset the ankle and a plate was inserted to stabilise the area.

He resumed training in January of this year, but his hopes of returning to the first-team were dashed when he suffered a setback in April.

"We all thought I was going to be ok back then but unfortunately I wasn't," Bouma added.

"I feel much better now though. The discomfort is as good as gone and now it's all about fitness.

"Training is great and I'm enjoying that. I am getting my strength and fitness back but I can't rush it."
