O'Leary targets youth development

O'Leary has one of the smallest squads in the Premier League
Aston Villa boss David O'Leary believes upgrading the club's training ground will help attract and develop more young talent in the absence of funds.

Redevelopment of Villa's Bodymoor Heath complex is due to start at the end of the current season.

O'Leary said: "If we go down the route of not having the money, I will take on the challenge of developing kids.

"It is important to bring them to a wonderful training environment. That will be a nice challenge to take on."

O'Leary will again have limited money available to bolster his small squad in the summer.

But the Irishman feels improved training facilities and youth development can be his legacy to the club.

O'Leary said: "I want to build a squad of players here. But I can't go out and buy two kids from Nottingham Forest like Tottenham have done with Andy Reid and Michael Dawson.

"I want to start the process of trying to build a new training ground. It might not benefit me but at least they can say 'O'Leary started the process'."
