Taylor wants Boateng talks
George Boateng shows his uncompromising attitude
George Boateng shows his uncompromising attitude
Aston Villa manager Graham Taylor is set to hold showdown talks with unhappy midfielder George Boateng.

The Dutch international, who has two years left on his current deal, handed in a transfer request after the last match of the season.

Boateng will go to FIFA to set a fee.

Taylor wants Boateng to return to the club even if he eventually gets his wish to move, with Middlesbrough interested in his services.

"I have spoken to George three times since we discovered he was back in Holland and the chairman (Doug Ellis) has also talked to him," said the Aston Villa manager.

"But what we can't seem to get out of him is the precise reason why he wants to leave Aston Villa.

"He is adamant, though, that he does want a transfer and we will pick this up with him when we all get back.

"I would be very disappointed if he didn't return. If he stays away, that isn't going to help matters.

"I hope he does come back after we've had our talk. I'd like this sorted out one way or the other."

The Dutch international joined Villa for £4.5m from Coventry in July 1999.
