Arsenal's Cesc Fabregas to miss FA Cup tie at Man Utd

Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas has been ruled out of Saturday's FA Cup tie at Manchester United but striker Robin van Persie will be fit to play.

Boss Arsene Wenger said that Fabregas had a recurrence of a hamstring problem and could be out for two weeks.

Goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny will also miss the quarter-final at Old Trafford after injuring his finger in Tuesday's Champions League defeat by Barcelona.

With only one fit keeper, Wenger said he might consider an emergency loan.

Fabregas played in the 3-1 loss at the Nou Camp before being substituted, but having missed the previous three games he looked out of sorts during the 4-3 aggregate defeat in Spain.

"He is very disappointed because it is becoming a bit of a problem for him but it is very superficial," said Wenger.

Van Persie was coming back from a knee problem suffered in the 2-1 Carling Cup final loss to Birmingham and although he looked livelier in Barcelona, the Dutch striker was sent off after receiving a second yellow card for kicking the ball away.

He was penalised following an offside whistle which he claimed he did not hear, a decision which Wenger said was "embarrassing".

During an eventful European tie, Szczesny was replaced by Manuel Almunia after 19 minutes when the Polish keeper injured his finger saving a Dani Alves shot.

Wenger said Szczesny would be out for "a while" and with Lukasz Fabianski also out with a long-term shoulder injury, Arsenal's goalkeeping situation has become critical.

The Gunners are already without injured winger Theo Walcott and holding midfielder Alex Song as they look to bounce back from their Champions League exit and continue their quest for their first trophy in six years.
