Arsenal midfielder Samir Nasri set for injury lay-off

Arsenal midfielder Samir Nasri faces a three week lay-off after suffering a hamstring injury in the first half of Arsenal's FA Cup win over Huddersfield.

Nasri, 23, limped off as he chased a long kick up-field from keeper Manuel Almunia in a game the Gunners won 2-1.

The playmaker is now a doubt for the first leg of Arsenal's Champions League game against Barcelona on 16 February.

"Nasri looks to have a serious hamstring injury. Usually it is three weeks," said manager Arsene Wenger.

The Frenchman has been an influential member of an Arsenal side who have reached the final of the Carling Cup and who are challenging Manchester United at the top of the Premier League.

If the former Marseille star is out for three weeks he would miss Premier League matches against Everton, Newcastle and Wolverhampton, and the Stoke game on 22 February would be touch and go.

"We have to see if it is a grade one, if so, it will be two weeks, so we will see," said Wenger.

The Arsenal boss admitted he had been considering leaving out the Frenchman for Sunday's fourth-round clash at the Emirates Stadium.

However, because of concerns over the fitness of fellow midfielder Tomas Rosicky, who has been troubled by a virus, Wenger elected to put Nasri in the starting XI against Huddersfield.

"I now have regrets because the plan was to play Rosicky, but he was still too weak because he was sick, so I took the gamble on Nasri," added Wenger.

"It backfired, but he could have come on and that happened as well. It is very difficult to predict.

"We are at the stage of the season where we play so many games that to lose bodies is very difficult for us. But Samir is a big blow."
