Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas faces three-week lay-off
Fabregas was substituted in Saturday's match against Sunderland
Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas will be sidelined for up to three weeks because of a hamstring injury.
Midfielder Fabregas, 23, limped off after half an hour of Saturday's 1-1 Premier League draw at Sunderland, having scored the 13th-minute opener.
A statement on the club's website read: "Arsenal Football Club have confirmed that Cesc Fabregas will be out for two to three weeks.
"The extent of the injury was discovered after a scan on Monday."
Fabregas will miss Tuesday's Carling Cup tie at north London rivals Tottenham, the Champions League group match at Partizan Belgrade a week later and the Premier League trip to West Brom.
He is also a major doubt for the visit to league leaders Chelsea on 3 October as well as Spain's Euro 2010 clash with Lithuania five days later.
Fabregas appeared to be relaxed about the problem when he posted a message on Monday on his official Twitter page, which read: "Good news on my injury. I have some fluid but nothing bad in the muscle. I hope I can be playing in two weeks."
He had opened the scoring at the Stadium of Light with a bizarre goal, when Anton Ferdinand's attempted clearance bounced off the Spaniard and looped into the net.
