Arsenal midfielder Freddie Ljungberg could miss the start of the new Premiership season as he is struggling with an ankle injury.
The 29-year-old Swede is also a major doubt for Arsenal's two-leg Champions League qualifier next month.
"Ljungberg has an inflammation around his ankle," manager Arsene Wenger told the club's website.
"He has had an injection - but I do not think he will be completely ready for the start of the Premiership season."
Arsenal take on Aston Villa in the first Premiership match at the new Emirates Stadium on 19 August.
The Gunners are poised to play the Champions League qualifiers on 8/9 August and 22/23 August. The draw for the third qualifying round takes place on Friday.
