Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said now was the right time to see how good his young players were under pressure after their 2-0 away win at West Brom.
Wenger said: "I need to know how these young players can play in big games and there's no better time to find out.
"We want to grow as a team and become better and better. We lost the title after we got six points from five games after the Manchester United defeat.
"But since then with a mixture of youth and experience we've got much better."
Wenger admitted his team had needed to be patient as it took them 66 minutes to break down the Baggies but said his team was still improving.
He added: "They made it very difficult for us to find an opening, but with time we found more space and the first goal was fantastic.
"We were patient, we waited for our chance, and the fact we are not conceding goals gives us the confidence to have that patience we don't always have."
