Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger was relieved to see the Gunners triumph over a battling Manchester City side.
"It was a big win to win here," Wenger said. "It was a hard-earned victory.
"We played a cup game. City made it very difficult for us - they were tenacious and they played well - a lot of credit goes to their defenders.
"We played well in the first half but we didn't get the second goal - and when you don't finish the game off it the other team has a chance."
