Arsene Wenger declared that Arsenal had finally overcome last season's false start against Inter Milan in Europe with a win over PSV Eindhoven.
"The trauma of last season's start preyed on the players' minds a bit and it was also their fourth game in just 10 days," said Wenger.
"We dropped physically in the second half but we didn't make a big mistake.
"We're not used to winning 1-0 recently but this was a 1-0 win that I was pleased with."
He added: "We showed our experience and maturity in the second half in keeping the ball well and not making a big mistake.
"I don't like boring football. But we didn't have enough petrol in our tank to play our normal game in the second half and then you have to adapt your game
to your potential.
"We want to play quality football and we believe the consequences of that is normally that you win the game.
"If it wasn't as spectacular as normal then it was because we couldn't play
that way, rather than because we decided not to."
