Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger was pleased referee Mark Halsey allowed Thierry Henry's quickly-taken free-kick to stand in the 2-0 win over Aston Villa.
The Gunners fell victim to an Ian Harte goal in similar circumstances against Leeds at Highbury two years ago.
He said: "It was a strange goal, I must concede that.
"I do not know what was said by the referee to Thierry. He took a quick
decision. Fair or not, good or not, I do not know."
But the Arsenal boss was convinced Kanu deserved the penalty after Olof Mellberg obstructed the Nigerian striker as he jinked into the Villa area.
Wenger added: "It was a penalty - Kanu was clean through and was irregularly stopped. It is a question of opinion and I have not seen the slow motion.
"It has been a great weekend for us. These matches are always very
passionate, always physical and dynamic. They closed us down very well.
"Now we play Middlesbrough three times in the Carling Cup and FA Cup but we
go from game to game and try to do well.
"We are 22 Premiership games unbeaten but we are not looking beyond the next match. We
always try to win the next match. That is how we deal with it.
"There is a long way to go but we have the hunger and the motivation and
belief."
