Arsenal's Swiss defender Philippe Senderos is close to a return to training after recovering from injury.
Senderos could soon be called upon
The 18-year-old has yet to make his debut for the Gunners because of a back problem sustained during pre-season.
But Senderos told the club's website: "I should be fully fit to resume training in the next two weeks.
"I want to play in the first team but first I have to come back and prove that I am good enough."
It is likely that, provided he is fit, Senderos will get his chance sooner rather than later as Arsenal's defensive worries have reached crisis point.
Sol Campbell, Martin Keown and Lauren are all facing disciplinary bans over the coming month.
Senderos was signed by Arsenal last December after captaining Switzerland to victory in the European Under-17 Championships.
He completed the season at Swiss club Servette before moving to England in the summer.
Meanwhile, Arsenal will be without skipper Patrick Vieira, Dennis Bergkamp
and Fredrik Ljungberg for Saturday's game against Liverpool.
And though Sol Campbell is back in training after the death of his father, he is rated doubtful for the Anfield meeting.
All four missed Tuesday's goalless Champions League draw at Lokomotiv Moscow.
