FA to view Campbell video
Arsenal defender Sol Campbell
Sol Campbell's clash with Eric Djemba-Djemba has been referred to the Football Association's video advisory panel.

The Arsenal defender reacted angrily to a challenge by Djemba-Djemba during Sunday's Community Shield final, which Manchester United won on penalties.

Television replays caught Campbell kicking out at the Cameroon midfielder, who was spoken to by referee Steve Bennett for a raised boot which hit the England defender in the chest.

Campbell's actions will now be studied by the video advisory panel before the FA deliberate on whether to hand out any punishment.

We will fight any charge. I am really disappointed about this
Arsene Wenger
Djemba-Djemba will escape any further censure as Bennett confirmed he dealt with his challenge at the time.

A statement on the FA website said: "The FA can confirm that an incident involving Arsenal's Sol Campbell and Manchester United's Eric Djemba-Djemba during the FA Community Shield on 10 August has been referred to the video advisory panel.

"Referee Steve Bennett has confirmed in his report that while he saw and dealt with the initial challenge by Djemba-Djemba on Campbell, he did not see Campbell's reaction."

The news will come as a blow to Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger who reacted angrily to suggestions Campbell could be banned for the incident and vowed to defend his player.

"This is farcical that Sol has been cited," Wenger said.

"It seems to me that we are living in farci-land. We will fight any charge. I am really disappointed about this.

"What about the challenge by Djemba-Djemba? It was obscene. Why is no action being taken about that?

"Sol was not able to train because of that challenge and he told me that he was thankful Djemba-Djemba was wearing rubber studs.

"If they had been other studs then he could have faced a long time out with injury. It is right at the top of his hip. I am very upset and we will support Sol all the way."

After the game, Bennett admitted he did not see what Campbell had done.

"If I had seen Campbell come up with his leg, action would have been taken. I didn't see the retaliation and I have referred it to the FA in my report," Bennett said.

The FA also confirmed Ashley Cole's clash with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would not be brought to the video advisory panel's attention as Bennett "saw and dealt with it on the field of play".
