Austria Vienna 0-2 Arsenal
Dennis Bergkamp celebrates with Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger
Bergkamp recently signed an extended deal
Dennis Bergkamp played a starring role as Arsenal eased to victory over Austrian champions Austria Vienna.

Bergkamp, who recently signed a new one-year contract at Highbury, scored a superb goal then set up a second for Francis Jeffers before half-time.

Arsenal eased off the gas in the second half, with the damage already done.

Bergkamp went close on 13 minutes with a volley that flew just after good work by Jermaine Pennant down the right.

But when the same combination linked again on 29 minutes Bergkamp's finish was unstoppable.

Pennant cut the ball back and the Dutch striker hit a vicious shot beyond Austria goalkeeper Joey Didulica.

Didulica used his legs to keep out another Bergkamp effort soon after before Arsenal doubled their advantage just before half-time.

A mis-hit back pass Paul Scharner was seized on by Bergkamp, whose unselfish pass left Jeffers with a simple tap-in.

Former Liverpool striker Sean Dundee caused early problems for Arsenal, firing wide then forcing Sol Campbell to hack over his own bar.

Austria also featured ex-Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Petter Rudi and looked dangerous in the early stages.

But Arsenal's goals took the sting out of the game and the second half was something of a formality as the Gunners comfortably held on.
