Arsenal's Dutch international Giovanni van Bronckhorst has become a target for PSV Eindhoven.
Guus Hiddink, who manages the Dutch champions, has confirmed an interest in the 28-year-old former Rangers player.
PSV are searching for an experienced left-sided midfielder with Hiddink admitting his side are vulnerable on that side.
"We have to play a lot of games. When a player on the left side falls off, I have to reorganise the whole team, that is no good," he told Eindhoven's Dagblad newspaper.
"When you have the opportunity to get someone like van Bronckhorst you have someone who can play at many positions."
PSV have just received a £1.7m boost after winning the Peace Cup in Korea, but that is unlikely to be enough to land van Bronckhorst, who arrived at Highbury two years ago from Ibrox.
"I won`t give up no matter how bad the economic situation is at PSV," Hiddink added.
"If van Bronckhorst is really out of our range we have to find someone else who has less quality, but is good enough for PSV. I have already had some thoughts about that."
