Manninger completes Fiorentina switch
Alex Manninger
Manninger had found himself out-of-favour at Arsenal
Arsenal goalkeeper Alex Manninger has completed his move to Italian serie A side Fiorentina.

The 24-year-old Austrian will be loaned to play in Italy for the next season after which Fiorentina will have an option to make the deal permanent.

The transfer was delayed due to problems with Manninger's Arsenal contract, which does not expire until 2004.

Manninger may make his debut this week and will feel at home as Fiorentina are playing Tottenham in a friendly.

The Austrian made just 63 appearances for Arsenal since joining in 1997.

The arrival of Richard Wright from Ipswich meant that he was unlikely to have been Arsenal's first choice even when David Seaman finally does retire.

Fiorentina manager Roberto Mancini said Manninger would have to fight Guiseppe Taglialatela for the number one spot.
