Henry holds his hands up
Thierry Henry sees another chance go begging
Thierry Henry sees another chance go begging
Striker Thierry Henry has admitted his missed chances in the FA Cup final proved to be the difference in Arsenal winning and losing to Liverpool.

"I messed up the chance to finish the game for us after Freddie put us in front," admitted Henry. "I missed a big, big opportunity for 2-0 and they would not have come back from that.

"I have had a fine season again I think and I wanted to finish it off by scoring and winning the FA Cup with Arsenal, but I missed my chances and Michael Owen took his. I have to admit it."

But defeat and further heartbreak for Henry and his Arsenal team-mates has only strengthened his resolve and determination for the next campaign.

I hold my hand up and everybody has to do the same because we certainly don't want to feel so down like this again at the end of next season
Thierry Henry
"I want to come back next season and fight and do something for Arsenal.

"We want to have another chance to win the FA Cup and we want to win other competitions as well, but most of all we need to make a stronger challenge to Manchester United because the title race has been boring again."

Henry was in no doubt that Arsenal had been the better side in Saturday's final and felt that Stephane Henchoz should have been shown the red card when handling his effort on the line in the first half.

But Henry is well aware that his own goal tally could have been greater this season.

"You want to do well for your personal ambition, but you can't always think of that because success is within the team.

"I scored 26 goals last season and I have 22 this time, but I know I have missed many others.

"I am not the only one, but I hold my hand up and everybody has to do the same because we certainly don't want to feel so down like this again at the end of next season."
