Raeside takes temporary control

Player-assistant Robbie Raeside

Arbroath have extended Falkirk defender Dermot McCaffrey's loan spell as Robbie Raeside prepares to act as caretaker manager against Dumbarton on Saturday.

John McGlashan stood down as manager after the weekend defeat by Cowdenbeath in Division Two and player-assistant Raeside is in temporary charge.

Chairman John Christison does not know when a permanent boss will come in.

"I have not even begun to think about that as yet as John's move was unexpected," he told the SFL website.

"It would be fair to say that we have a blank piece of paper at the moment and will take things from there."

McGlashan had ended his four-year spell with Arbroath saying he wanted to go before relations with the club, who sit eighth in Division Two, turned sour.

On the injury front, the news could be sweet for Red Lichties wing-back Steven Dorris, who is on his way back to fitness after receiving an injection of sugar into his knee.

The former St Johnstone player has been out with a knee injury and the infusion of a sterile solution that includes equal parts of Dextrose and Fructose was prescribed as it can cut down healing time dramatically.

It was the kind of treatment that allowed Stoke City striker James Beattie to return to action within 10 days despite an expected absence of six weeks.

As Arbroath extended McCaffrey's stay at Gayfield for another two months, Red Litchties midfielder Paul Watson was being praised by Montrose manager Steven Tweed following his debut on loan.

Struggling Montrose came from two goals behind to draw away to Forfar Athletic in Division Three.

"Paul just joined us from Arbroath before the game and has not trained with or seen us play, so that made it a difficult debut for him," said Tweed.

"In the circumstances, I thought he played really well, kept things neat and tidy and added a fair degree of experience."
