Cairney resigns as Arbroath boss
Harry Cairney
Harry Cairney took over in 2004
Harry Cairney has resigned as manager of Arbroath following a 3-0 defeat at home to Cowdenbeath in Division Three.

The Angus club are inviting applications to replace Cairney, who had been manager since September 2004.

Cairney had taken over from sacked Stevie Kirk but failed to prevent his side being relegated last season.

Arbroath started the season among the promotion favourites but have now gone five games without a victory to lie third bottom of the table.

Former defender Cairney had turned out for Airdrieonians, Stenhousemuir and Brechin City in a long playing career.

He managed Annan Athletic, who play in the East of Scotland League, and was there for a year before moving to Gayfield.
