Aldershot striker Danny Hylton says he is glad he did not leave the club during the January transfer window.

The 22-year-old came to close to joining AFC Wimbledon, but signed a new one-year deal with the Shots last week.

He told BBC Surrey: "When Kevin Dillon was manager here he was trying to get me out quite badly.

"I thought about moving a tiny bit. But my family and the players told me to hang on and see what happens. It's funny how things change like that."

Dillon left the Recreation Ground in January, with Dean Holdsworth taking charge of the League Two club.

"The gaffer [Holdsworth] came up to me in training and said he wanted to keep me here," Hylton continued.

"It was done quite quickly because I wanted to stay and Dean wanted me.

"To sign a new contract is great. I just need to keep pushing on now, stay in the team and get a few more goals."
