Aldershot's Ben Herd eyes cup upset against Watford

Ben Herd
Herd made 41 appearances for the Shots in his first season at the club

Former Watford trainee Ben Herd hopes of causing a Carling Cup upset with current club Aldershot Town.

The defender, 25, spent 12 years with the Championship club and believes the Shots can win Tuesday's tie.

He told BBC Surrey: "Anyone can beat anyone really, especially in the early stages of this cup.

"Just after pre-season you might be able to catch teams cold. If we work hard and believe in what we're doing we've got a good chance."

The defender, who was at Vicarage Road between the ages of eight and 20, has good memories of his time at the club.

"They were good ones up until I got released. I had some really good coaches there," he said.

"It was a great learning curve and a good football education. We had Gianluca Vialli when I first went there with Ray Wilkins as a coach.

"There were some good pros there and I learnt a lot. It's unfortunate I didn't get a chance to stay there."
