Albion Rovers say Bobby Barr will remain under contract at Cliftonhill despite being told he will not play again for the Third Division club.
The 20-year-old winger was accused by manager Paul Martin of repeatedly being disrespectful to the management team.
Martin is looking to arrange a loan deal, with Ayr United reportedly interested in Barr's services.
"He has not been released by the club, nor will he be," said a statement on the Third Division club's website.
"Paul Martin is trying to arrange a loan deal and/or training facilities for him until the January transfer window, when he will be available for transfer.
"The club will continue to pay him until such times as another club signs him in January or he reaches the end of his contract."
Barr, who scored against First Division Ayr during an ALBA Challenge Cup tie at Somerset Park earlier in the season, was the Third Division player of the year last term.
That is the fourth time in games recently Robert has shouted things at me or my assistant
Albion Rovers manager Paul Martin
But he has been sidelined after a shouting match with Martin as Rovers lost 2-0 away to Berwick Rangers on Saturday.
"I have protected him in lots of ways, but we only want players who want to play for this club and not disrespect it," Martin told the Scottish Football League website.
"I will help find Robert somewhere to continue his career, but he will not be playing at Cliftonhill."
Martin went on to reveal that the incident on Saturday was not an isolated case.
"Robert decided to shout at me and the coaching staff in a wholly inappropriate way during the first half at Berwick on Saturday.
"What he shouted was disrespectful to everyone connected with the club, including his team-mates on the pitch.
"It was heard by the main stand and, when I spoke to him about it at half time, he continued, again in an inappropriate way, and he was immediately substituted.
"That is the fourth time in games recently Robert has shouted things at me or my assistant, Todd Lumsden, or his team-mates that has shown a total lack of respect.
"It has happened at training countless times and I have also been able to smooth things over, but enough is enough.
"Robert is a talented player, he was the Third Division player of the year last season, and I have invested a lot of time in him since he came here both on and off the pitch.
"I have probably compromised myself with the other players because of the amount of times I have let him away with things, but that is at an end now."
