Seven head for Cliftonhill squad

Albion Rovers

Albion Rovers have made three additions to their squad and have agreed deals with four others.

Defender Michael O'Byrne and midfielder Mark Canning were released at the end of the season despite having helped Dumbarton win the Division Three title.

They have signed along with former Raith Rovers defender Todd Lumsden.

Former Clyde striker Mark McCusker, Ballieston U21s keeper Derek Gaston, Stenhousemuir midfielder Paul Tyrrell and winger Chris Boyle should follow.

Boyle is poised to return from a spell playing in Australia, having left Dumbarton in 2007.

Gaston has already trained with the Rovers first-team, while McCusker, who had a spell on loan with the Coatbridge club, was one of 12 players who agreed to terminate their contracts to prevent First Division Clyde going into administration.

They were offered better deals elsewhere but to their credit wanted to play at the Rovers

Albion Rovers manager Paul Martin

Lumsden will be assistant to manager Paul Martin in his third spell with the club.

Martin told his club website: "Todd is a terrific addition for us, in both a playing and a coaching sense.

"I expect Todd to make a big impact both on and off the field this year.

"Michael and Mark are also great additions. Both had great seasons with Dumbarton but were not offered new deals.

"They were offered better deals elsewhere but to their credit wanted to play at the Rovers."

Meanwhile, striker Pat Walker is poised to sign a new contract after spending much of last season abroad.

Martin has also made an offer for a player from the junior ranks and will give trials to several players when pre-season training starts on 22 June.

Rovers have so far received no offers for midfielder Bobby Barr, the PFA Scotland Division Three player of the year, who wishes to find a new club.

Striker Ian Harty rejected a new contract, while Ciaran Donnelly has yet to decide whether to accept a new deal.

Martin McGoldrick, who decided to join junior outfit Clydebank, David Scott, Robert Walker, Callan Adam and Ross Harris were released at the end of the season.
