Archibald makes last Airdrie bid
![]() Steve Archibald still wants to take control of Airdrie
Former Scotland star Steve Archibald is refusing to give up on Airdrie and has launched one final bid to take control of the Lanarkshire club.
Archibald claims to have approached provisional liquidators KPMG with an additional £500,000 on Tuesday morning. KPMG rejected a bid from Archibald last week and relations between the former preferred bidder and the Glasgow-based accountants have been particularly prickly in recent weeks. Archibald took over the running of the club last summer but KPMG pulled the plug on his preferred bidder status last month amid claims he was behind on payments. KPMG have been involved in lengthy talks with a consortium headed by Fife hotelier Jim Innes and have been making positive noises about a deal being completed by the weekend. Innes, who has kept in close contact with his partners while on business in Italy, is confident that a solution will be found soon. Airdrie must field a team to meet Falkirk on Saturday or face the prospect of having their Scottish Football League membership rescinded. Airdrie's last match resulted in a 3-1 Scottish Cup win against Queen of the South but they have not been involved in league action since February 10.
