Airdrie thrown SFL lifeline
Airdrie have been given more time for a deal
Airdrie have been given more time for a deal
The Scottish Football League have thrown Airdrie a lifeline by allowing interim liquidators KPMG until Saturday to try to secure the future of the First Division club.

The SFL had claimed that the club's "league status would be in jeopardy" if they failed to fulfil their Tuesday fixture against Falkirk.

Airdrie's last match resulted in a 3-1 Scottish Cup win against Queen of the South but they have not been involved in league action since February 10.

KPMG have been locked in talks with a consortium interested in taking over Airdrie.

Approach

SFL secretary Peter Donald confirmed the SFL will allow the provisional liquidators until the weekend to continue discussions.

He said: "The position is that KPMG approached us and asked if Tuesday night's fixture against Falkirk could be rescheduled.

"The committee considered the matter and, in order to give the consortium and KPMG more time, we have decided to go the extra mile by allowing the game to take place at noon on Saturday."

The future of the Lanarkshire club was thrown into further doubt last week when a renewed offer by previous preferred bidder Steve Archibald was thrown out by KMPG.

But a statement released on behalf of the interim liquidators confirmed that discussions are taking place with another interested party.

The statement read: "The rescheduling of the game will provide more time in which to search for a solution to Airdrie FC's current difficulties.

"KPMG is currently in discussion with one interested party."
