Airdrie United have signed former Queen of the South midfielder Ryan McCann after he impressed on trial.

The 27-year-old spent the latter half of last season with Queens before being released in the summer.

Airdrie manager Kenny Black told his club's website: "We were able to start speaking seriously with him once we knew what league we would be in."

The club had been relegated to Division Two but were saved when Livingston were demoted to Division Three.

Livingston had been relegated after going into administration at the end of the season.

McCann, who played as a substitute against Ayr at the weekend, left Queens to join Morecambe but returned to Palmerston in January.

He has previously played for Celtic, St Johnstone, Hartlepool, Clyde and Bohemians.
