Lagana part of Airdrie triple joy

Airdrie have completed a triple signing with the arrival of Frankie Lagana from Melbourne Knights to add to the capture of Ricky Waddell and Scott Gemmill.

Shepparton-born forward Lagana, who was once on the books of Serie A outfit Empoli, has left Melbourne Knights.

Lagana previously played for Victoria Premier League rivals Oakleigh and Australia's Olympic squad.

Midfielder Waddell, 28, and Gemmill, 22, both had their contracts terminated by cash-strapped Clyde.

It is Waddell's second spell at Excelsior Stadium, returning after a season at Broadwood.

The former Falkirk, Partick Thistle, Hamilton, Forfar, Senkang Punggol and Ayr midfielder will face his former club in the Second Division in the coming season after both suffered relegation.

We are still in talks with Adam Strachan, but as yet he has not committed his future to us

Gemmill, who began his career with St Mirren, spent a season with Clyde after joining the Cumbernauld club from Berwick Rangers.

Airdrie manager Kenny Black is hopeful of adding two or three more signings but says he will have to draw on the club's Under-19 squad this season.

"We are still operating with a very small squad, with 14 signed players, 11 of last season's boys plus Ricky Waddell, Scott Gemmell and Frankie Lagana," he told Airdrie's website.

Black is still hoping to sign 22-year-old former Partick Thistle midfielder Adam Strachan, who played as a trialist in a pre-season friendly against Hibernian after being released by Ross County.

"We put an offer to him immediately after the game, we are still in talks with Adam, but as yet he has not committed his future to us," Black added.
